Premier Michael Misick: we want a leader, not a rapist!

The Hon. Michael Misick
Yesterday I was awakened by a sound I hardly ever hear: my cell phone ringing. I rarely use the piece of plastic so I was very surprised when I put the phone to my ear and was asked, “Did you hear? The Premier raped someone!”
I was then told to Google it and of course I did, but didn’t come up with any results. I had been hearing talk about this before Thursday and I pushed it from my mind. After all, I wasn’t stupid enough to get caught up in some wannabe lifestyle and have a power hungry man grope me or foolishly feel up a very not interested woman.
This morning I decided to Google Michael Misick and guess what I found? A little commentary that asks some very reasonable questions about this entire situation. Here are some of the questions/thoughts raised by Anthony L. Hall on caribbeannetnews.com
- If this rape occurred over a week ago, I wonder whether guests who attended the gala opening of the Nikki Beach Resort and Spa just days later can now recall (even if through a drunken or drugged-out haze) any antic behaviour the Premier and First Lady displayed that could be attributed to it.
- Since the accuser is an American, I wonder how aggressive a role FBI agents are playing in the investigation.
- I wonder if the accuser has filed, or intends to file, a complaint in the US, which of course would pose consequences that are far more ominous for our Premier.
- I wonder which role the First Lady will choose to play: Will she stand by her man; or will she fly the coop back to the US to stand by her friend – especially if the FBI and IRS make her an offer she can’t refuse? (Of course, if she flees and divorce proceedings ensue, we’d have to end our tourism ad campaign featuring her in the most lucrative role of her life; which would result in millions more of our money being squandered by this TCI government.)
- I suspect senior members of the ruling Progressive National Party (PNP) were already suffering acute anxieties over the looming commission of inquiry into corruption in the TCI. Therefore, I wonder how close they came to finally throwing the Premier overboard to save their own hides.
- Yet, I wonder whether these allegations will make the British more, or less, inclined to establish this commission
Doesn’t it make you want to sigh? What is our country coming to now?
Dear Premier Misick, we want a leader. If we wanted a rapist we could look to the streets, we could look to the common man but from you we need strength and honour. From you we demand respect for the country and we deserve a man who sets good examples.
Now we have to bear the shame of your alleged deeds and even if you are innocent, which is very hard to believe because we live in an age where people are automatically guilty, the mere fact that you are being associated with such a deplorable action does nothing but tarnish our country’s name.
The corruption that seeps from the PNP house under your direction has become increasingly clear. What you have done to this country as far as damage is concerned goes deeper than the surface. Think of it in terms of abusing a person and the effects it has on their life in the future: that is what you’ve done to us. Do you know the children, our future, have no faith in the system? None of them hold you or a member of ANY party for that matter as someone to look up to. The stain you have made will take more than a home remedy to remove.
We need a leader, it is no longer a want. We are in dire need of someone who CARES.
Further into Mr. Hall’s commentary he makes this point:
NOTE: No doubt some of you are wondering if the TCI Attorney General will dismiss this rape charge against our Premier the way the Director of Public Prosecutions in St Vincent and the Grenadines dismissed two separate rape charges against that country’s prime minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, earlier this year.
And frankly, given that the TCI Attorney General decided last year that there was “no public interest” in prosecuting the Premier on credible charges of assault, theft and obstruction of justice, chances are very good that his legal reasoning would mislead him into dismissing this charge as a strictly private matter.
However, the reason Premier Misick will not get off as easily as Prime Minister Gonsalves did is that his accuser is an American, not a native woman. (Pathetic, I know, but it’s really that simple…)
Moreover, I suspect that, ultimately, the FBI and US prosecutors will pursue justice for her far more vigorously and objectively than our arbitrary and capricious Attorney General would have done for one of our own.
There have always been rumors that The Premier has often dabbled in this disgusting “sport”. The “sport” of perusing local young ladies. I don’t know if every rumor is true or not but I hope if it is true these women would come forward and tell their stories. AND FIGHT, do not back down but unleash all that makes you woman upon that man. It is sad to think that because this woman who is making these allegations is an American that her case would be taken more seriously. I think a woman is a woman no matter where she is from.
Let us think on these things, let us fight to find truth in paradise.

As it has been said before, the Provo Youth are totally tired of the foolish antics that the Premier and his party have been up to. As I can speak for the youth of these islands, It is evident that the Premier’s latest actions were not only unacceptable but highly appaling. How are we as the future able to look up to such a figure? Even if the alligations are false, shouldn’t we still question the ability of this man to lead our country? We have to wake up and see what the is going on around us. How are we to feel safe in our country? What else are we to expect for the Premier, seeing as he is able to get away with everything he does. What is next ….. ?

Well, this was bound to happen. TCI allowed the Premier to import an uneducated, unpolished, z-list wife from the US without making/demanding an explanation on why he would disrespect the women and culture of TCI and select a bride abroad. Like there are no good-looking, educated, intelligent women on the island. Maybe he was being set-up from the beginning. Since the accuser is her personal friend, this may have been planned. Maybe this was her way of getting out of the marriage with a huge settlement. Outside of her marriage to him, she has nothing no financial substance. She is and has has been a STRUGGLING actress. Your dear Premier was set-up all along.
Good for him!!!!!

I am not going to accuse our Premier of anything. It is not my place to do that. There are many points of view for this issue but it is far more consequential than we really sense. I will admit that I am willing to logistically speculate on the outcome as it will affect us all. We somehow need to be prepared for the results. Stimulative debate can helps us accomplish that.
The Premier needs our prayers–innocent or guilty. We choosed him to represent us and now he is in a terrible position. As citizens–and/or denizens–we need to find some way for our country to absorb this blow.
From what I am hearing on the short waves, this may affect long term relations for the Turks and Caicos on a whole, with the United States. We depend on them for so much. The way I see it is, it is not only the Premier’s problem, but our problem.
Sorry if this is not the typical, “Die Premier and go to hell,” perspective, but I myself had to seriously think about this situation and just hope for the best for Turks and Caicos Islands. Remember Aruba?
Prayer Time!

This is just what everyone wants for people to take media given statements and run with them. None of you or myself was there so how is it we are so quickly to convict when we don’t have any facts. nowadays this is a sue happy world. what about the women out here that’s trying to get a fast payday? no one thinks that women can set men up huh? i’m not saying something didn’t happen in these situation but rape is the quickest easiest thing some women yell to get attention and money! he’s being doing a pretty good job all this time now everyone wants him out of office. people/media are cruel and want to blame somebody so no one looks into the facts first let’s just start talking sideways about people and making up more lies and then if he’s innocent then we’ll apologize. there is only one Judge one person he has answer to for his wrong doing but since he’s a public figure he has to say something to the public but always remember it could be you in that same place. INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY

I too certainly agree with Talbot, we are too quick to judge people , this is the mean reason why all the foreigns here don’t respect us.We never try to stick together for the better of the country. Stop been player haters and think how this will affect our country.
Recession is in place and this country is already in trouble. For once be sensible and stop chatting all day long about something we are speculating about. We know this is what we do best (GOSSIP) LETS TRY TO STOP NOW FOR THIS COUNTRY IS RUIN. My last point is that Lisa RAYE IS NO MORE A GOLD DIGGER LIKE SOME OF YOU HO’S GIVE UP BOODY ON PROMISES OF GETTING YOUR HOUSES BUILD.ha ha ha

Well if it was a John Doe not much would have cared, but what many fail to realize is that we are talking about someone who is leading the country, setting an example for the youths may I elaborate on youths and say more importantly the Male youths. Are we to put a blind eye to the whole situation? Thats totally absurd! In the real world, apparently what he’s trying to make the island to, people make mistakes but what he fails to realize is there are intolerable mistakes and he might have just made a major one. If he hasn’t done such thing and the public has brought his name to shame, and partially destroyed his reputation, then whats next to think? In my opinion, where theres a will theres a way. If he and the American female had no sort of one on one interaction then his defense may include, at what time could this have taken place. Which has not surfaced but if it does, we as a people need to learn about our limits, who is a man to judge another man? Premier Misick I wish you the best in regaining your loyalty, respect, character and everything in which you now neglect, as a child I was always told when you give people your name you can’t take it back! Bearing in mind that this is not the first we have heard about something like this according to the public he does have a history of similar allegations to this present one!

Why are some people so cruel ,bad minded ,selfish, negative and the rest. You all was not there with the man yet you bring him guilty . if you dont have nothing good to say just shut up and say nothing it is people like you badminded people who make our beautiful country looks bad and causing others who not from here to look down on us ,for God sake stop it , God dont like the ugly things that you all painting about people have a heart stop being so cruel, our job is to keep the premier up in prayer .
What has being said dont have to be true we were not there , and to be honest i dont believe it at all i think it was a setup. What we are sure about and can say is that he is doing a very good job in this country why not say those good and positive things about him things that even the dumb, deaf and the blind can see, but as soon as some of you hear any gossip or anything negative about him you are so quick to spread it .
Let all of us do the right thing keep him up in prayers stop trying to drag him down he is a Turks and Caicos Islander just like the rest of us let us love one another that is what God expect of us stop hating one another.
I think some of us dont know how to love ourself that is why we dont know how to love others ,try to stop what you are doing to this man it is not nice

The issue is not whether the Premier will be found guilty or not. The law and the courts will ultimately determine that, and it is not for us to judge. What is important is the fact that the Premier is even associated with the alleged rape charge. Has anyone stopped to wonder why it has been easy for so many people to believe these accusations? It is because a persons reputation speaks volumes. The Premier is know for the parties he throws, the celebrities he knows, and the numerous scandals that have surrounded him since stepping into office. The leader of our country needs to be someone who we can look up to, someone who sets the bar higher, a person that is concerned with furthering education and social programs instead of spending thousands to throw parties. There has been too much gossip, and as a Turks Islander it infuriates me. There have been too many questionable situations occuring that the people of the Turks and Caicos have never received answers for. The facts need to be made available to the people in order for us to stay educated and informed instead of “he said she said”. As for those who believe that our problem is that we do not stay united as a country, I have to say that I will not be standing behind the Premier, I don’t want my reputation to be associated with the scandals that have plagued his tenure in office. Every citizen of the Turks and Caicos has the right to back whichever political candidate they so choose, that is part of the freedom of democracy. Let us all hope that the Premier is found innocent for his sake and our own, but if he is indeed found guilty, there will be a lot of people who owe the women that is allegedly “plotting” against the Premier a massive apology. It takes incredible strength to come forth when something as hideous as rape occurs, and we owe both Michael Misick and the alleged victim enough respect to refrain from starting conspiracy theories.

leave gossip alone.we cant say the man rape no one we were not there.pray for him n this country .And keep focus on who your husbands n wives sleeping with.
April 17, 2008 at 11:44 pm

April 19, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Adiz, sound like you fulla hate to me!
April 21, 2008 at 1:39 am
It is in his nature and we all know that. Stop trying to make people feel sorry for him. This is not the first time he is accused of this. He is very immature and is such a party animal. He takes drugs, have strip parties, pays for sex . He is one of the biggest customers the dominican hore house has. We all know this man character. So STOP trying to play on people’s emotions. Wake up Please wake up. I can say more but the pubic know that whether he is innocent we all think that he could still be guilty. WE KNOW THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT HE DID IT. I agree innocent until proven guilty. But be real we know that if he did not rape her soemthing still happened and why did it? This is just who he is. No leader of a country should think that he could do all of these things mentioned and GET AWAY WITH IT and think that he is above the Law. There has been no law in the TCI since he became the leader of this country. This is why I believe that if he rapped her he may still get away to do it to someone else. I pray that the Lord’s will will be done and that the US make sure and protect their own as we have no protection of the Law here in the Turks and Caicos Islands. lET THE INVESTIGATIONS GO ON and stop trying to make this man sound like he is a good person when we all know that he is NOT whether he rape her or not he is capable and we should all wait and see what the results would be.
April 21, 2008 at 12:57 pm
For comfort against all speculation, DNA does not lie and the American authorities will be fierce. There is too much small talk among politicians in the US now about, “that little place Turks and Caicos.” Let’s hope for the best for our country.
April 21, 2008 at 6:07 pm
I am so sick of everything that is going on. The Premier did this to himself. First of all he needs to disassociate his horing wife from our country. She is an old hoe and the only person who thought she was somebody was him and try to sell her to us but we are not stupid people we did not buy it. Now he spent up our money trying to upgrade her damn ass and she still could not get it. She should have learn’t from Mrs. Lisa Hall and all the fabulous ladies in the Turks and Caicos. Class is something you cannot buy and all our money didn’t she still didn’t get it. Now get her ass of our posters and scratch her name of anything associated with us. Let her ass go back to America and be the old washed up queen of hoe she gad damn is. To see her on the cover of that old man ejaculating magazine called smooth is disgusting. So what if you have a body so what if you are Lisa raye you are overated by only the blacks in America because you looked working that pole. Your dumb bad attitude cellulite ass botox and lifestyle face lift tacky dressing ass still can’t keep your man. I hope she gets a good settleman because she old she can’t act and she will never change. Next time Premier you will stay in your character you had a good smart wife a lawyer well dress and classy you wanted hollywood I hope you can take what hollywood gives you. When you play with puppy they lick your mouth and big dogs will bite you. Well I hope you see she is taking a chunk out of your ass. You better clean this disgraceful stink shit up!
April 24, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Before the (alleged) victim and perhaps (soon to be ex) wife try to milk him for all he has in the US courts, someone should sieze his (ill gotten) wealth for the people it really belongs to. The honest and hard working Turks Islanders!
April 24, 2008 at 9:53 pm
INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. As Turks and Caicos Islanders we need to pray for our Leader. True some people may not have voted for him but he is a human being. He is from OUR country. If it was anyone of us we would want others to pray for us. I wasnt there so I dont know what happened, if it was set up or not. This is NOT a PDM or PNP issue. Our country is tooooooooooooooo politically minded. PRAY FOR HON. Mike Missick. We NEED to tighten the cords of unity
April 25, 2008 at 9:46 am
The Premier is entitled to due process without predudice. However, there should be complete transparecy of the investigation so that outsiders will know that, without reguard for the acts of an individual, the people of the Turks & Caicos Islands believe in and respect the rule of law.
April 28, 2008 at 6:59 pm
There is no doubt in my mind he did it. His behaviour since entering office has been disgusting. He has continued to make a mockery of this country and the people of Turks and Caicos Islands. I hope they throw the book at him

THE YOUNG PEOPLE - THE NEXT GENERATION ARE WATCHING, LISTENING AND TAKING IN ALL THAT THEY SEE THEIR LEADER INVOLVED IN - SHAME ON THE MAN WHO HAS THE POWER AND CHARGE OVER THESE YOUNG LIVES AND CHOSES TO BE SUCH A POOR EXAMPLE TO THEM. GOD HAS GIVEN HIM SO MUCH - REQUIRED SO LITTLE, AND MICHEAL MISSICK HAS THROWN ALL OF IT AWAY FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY AND THE LUST OF HIS FLESH.
