Micheal Misick Arrested?

May 20, 2008

Did anyone else hear Michael Misick has been arrested?

Don’t you just love rumors?

UPDATED MAY 21 08
There have been rumors circulating that Premier Misick was arrested yesterday.  I found this bit of “rumour control” on Caribbean Net News.

As I have written before I don’t know what Premier Misick has or hasn’t done but I do know he could use a wake up call.  This is not Mt. Olympus and your name is not Zeus.  Wake up.

Black Out the Blakout Crew

May 19, 2008

I’m all for supporting local artists but this is sickening:
WARNING THE LYRICS OF THIS SONG ARE OFFENSIVE AND CRUDE. PLEASE LISTEN WITH HEADPHONES ON IF IN A PUBLIC AREA.

I bet their “fans” will say other rappers have just as disgusting if not even worse lyrics but what really makes me wonder is the fact that this group tries to turn around and pull this song about using protection:

Yay for trying to educate people about the importance of condoms, which I think they also did by mentioning some condom brands in the first song, but boo for not using your “talent” to do bring forth even more messages. The first few lines in the Pinky song are utterly stupid and a waste of a good mind. And although that second video/song had a purpose I felt like all it does is show how little women think of themselves.

This group could have used their talent to bring a message to the country. I can’t knock em just for trying to be like what they see on the tv. Not many people want to burst out of the gate with their own style, their own flavor. Sometimes it’s easier to do, say and be what is already out there. If you want to be big about it then be big about it and go for the tougher issues.

Thank you to the young lady who pointed this out to me. She was outraged and I can understand why.  I hate that the young women in the second video think it’s cool to be in such a project.  Instead of singing/rapping/showing things like this we need to transform.

Please do use a condom.  I can’t stress that point enough.  However you want to say it bottom line: use a condom.

Please women respect yourselves.

And fellas you can do better than pinky.  Come on.

The Big Boom: how do you feel about growth in the TCI

May 19, 2008

I deal with tourists alot and I’m asked alot of questions but one I can always count on, once they feel a bit more comfortable with me, is “how do you feel about the boom/growth in the Turks and Caicos?”

I always tell them growth is inevitable but I’m not happy with the type of growth we’re having.  Alot of the visitors who have bee coming here for ten years or more are upset with the fact that there is any growth at all!  They want things to be exactly the same as it was back in the day:  a small tiny road and less houses and more bush.

Truly you can’t expect us to limit ourselves to what was.

How do I feel about the growth?  I think growth is good but we need to be sure we’re making the right steps in the right direction.  So instead of pimping us out without any consideration to the long term consequences of the current actions how about thinking about what will happen in the future?

I like the fact that so many jobs are available due to all our resorts but tell me you don’t feel a pinch of sadness walking down the beach.  It’s like nothing was left for us!  Now our glorious Grace Bay beach has been bombarded by these giants…how sad.

But growth isn’t limited to physical structures and new roads how about growing our minds?  How about improving our mentality?  I’ll put it straight out:  can we get our black people to think they’re worth more than the lives they’re living now?  It’s so silly if you want anything worthwhile in life that means “you mussbe wan be white eh.”

How about wanting more out of life and wanting more for ourselves.  Then we can stop the ignorance that is bringing the wrong things into this country.  Not to blame anything that is happening to this country on white people.  Whatever happened and is happening to this country is brought on by the actions of everyone: you and me, no matter what our race, nationality, sex or age.  The actions could be good or bad but the bottom line is every day that we go out there we’re making changes to the boom.

Let’s make better choices.  To the head of houses please, please make better choices.

Premier Misick: The plot thickens

April 25, 2008

Poor Premier Misick.  I’m rushing for time so I will link to the gossip blog TMZ that wrote about this the other day.  Basically It’s just an update and what we’ve all been hearing through the rumor-mill.

I will post thoughts on this later as well as some thoughts on other issues going on right now.

I have life issues.

My life issues only started when I moved back to this country.  How wonderful.

Advertise Here: Billboards in Turks and Caicos

April 17, 2008

I’m all for change cause you have to upgrade and update to keep with up with the world. So yay team Turks and Caicos, lets stay current. But I don’ think i’m warming up to the idea of these billboards. The main reason? I know some natives had to have had a similar if not the same idea as this woman and I know their idea had to be shut down. I don’t think it’s a case of black against white (or maybe it is), but to me it looks like a simple case of foreigner versus against native.

Also does the government think this move will really bring a uniformity to the signs placed along the highway? Signs will always be placed there illegally. On the roundabout at IGA there are usually two or three billboards grouped together…if those are cheaper than the ones on the highway wouldn’t you want to advertise there?

I’d like to see what the other phases are. If I heard correctly, I think the woman in charge of this project said they were implementing phase one.

You can watch more about this on wiv4 blog.

I always thought one of the cutest things about this island is the fact that we were billboard free, fast food / mega chain free…basically free of the things that many people try to escape. I’d like to see us keep the quaintness that attracts so many visitors and that alot of residents find appealing.

Premier Misick: leader, thinker, man.

April 16, 2008

My apologies for those who tried to view this post; there was something wrong with it that prevented it being shown.

In another entry I wrote we wanted a leader and not a rapist. I’d like to stress that I don’t know what happened between the Premier and the woman who is accusing him of this action. As for me saying we don’t want a rapist well isn’t that true? We don’t want a rapist and I don’t want a man who is accused of rape. Yes, in his position many people will try to get all that they can out of him but if a person is doing what they are supposed to do it’s very unlikely such serious rumors, allegations, and accusations, do not have to surface.

Premier Misick has brought a vision to the country. He had encouraged change and I have seen some good things emerge while his party is in power.  It is not an issue of whether we follow yellow or if we follow blue.  Let’s opt for a leader, a thinker and a man -not in the sense of man who can err sometimes but in the sense of a person who stands up and does it right.

Just remember: yellow and blue makes green.  Now you decipher that how you want.

Mind control doesn’t work on me

April 14, 2008

Anthony L. Hall

“Like a pimple on the body politick, there is a gentleman by the name of Anthony L. Hall, who continues to irriate the reputation of the Turks and Caicos Islands with his vitriolic ramblings on a news website, Caribbean Net News.” - Editor-in-Chief of Turks and Caicos Sun, Hayden Boyce.

This was the first paragraph of Mr Boyce’s editorial in the latest issue of the Sun. No doubt anyone who bothered to read the editorial instantly wondered who is this Anthony L. Hall and what makes him so bothersome.

Further into the editorial, Boyce offers Mr. Hall is “afflicted by a sorry, dangerous and sad condition that is characterized by blatant errors of wishful thinking, poor journalistic skills, nauseating levels of unpatriotism, compounded by an egregious inability to even basically understand the culture, politics, society and overall dynamics of the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

Does the thought of a man who stands boldly in the face of lies, whispers and cover ups, all in an attempt to show the people of this country what is truly happening - does that scare you? I think it does. Are you envious of the the fact one lowly man can freely present truth when your hand is forced to submit lies? Alright your paper might not print lies but no one would deny the fact that your paper is controlled and no one would argue that is true of every outlet of media in the Turks and Caicos. Seeing how Mr Hall is not governed by any woman or man, only by his morals and judgment, I would imagine that would be enough to turn some brown eyes green.

What is it that makes him so irritating? He is only asking questions that many Turks and Caicos Islanders ask themselves:

What does it say about a national leader who seems more interested in fraternising with B-list celebrities than in networking with international statesmen…?

What does it say about a national leader who leads by inciting fear and intimidation rather than by providing hope and inspiration…?

What does it say about government ministers who stand by and watch as a national leader grounds their ship of state…?

Are you upset that he is advising any corrupt, guilty, red handed Turks and Caicos Islanders to do the right thing?

Therefore, it behooves all TCIslanders - who have just cause to worry about a commission of inquiry following the trail of corruption to their own bank accounts or front doors - to take steps now to make full restitution. And this applies especially to high-ranking government officials who have participated in speculative sales of Crown Lands or in self-dealing business transactions, which they knew or should have known were either unethical or illegal.

Because, as I warned in the above-referenced commentary, British investigators will examine every land transfer, bank deposit, and business deal conducted in recent years for evidence of unjust enrichment. And only a deluded fool can doubt that grave consequences are bound to follow…

Are you upset because he pointed out the very thing I did above?

what does it say about a country where freedom (or integrity) of the press is such that no newspaper owner dares to publish any article critical of the leader out of fear of retaliation: i.e., losing political patronage or jeopardising financial interests…?

Mr Boyce believes Anthony Hall is “so hungry and desperate for there to be a commission of inquiry that his writing have that impression of a man who is chomping at the bit, frothing at the mouth…because his death wish for the Turks and Caicos Islands is not materializing.”

Seriously?

It is around the corner folks and whether this inquiry happens or not, which a lot of residents feel it will, dark days are peering around the corner.

Let’s not knock a man for emitting fresh air for once. Are you not tired of absorbing foul, dank and dirty words? Obviously Mr Boyce relishes in contributing to the mind control we are all under. Mr Hall is not unpatriotic! He might be the most patriotic man breathing right now. To share your clarity when all about you is a fog…why should we point and glare at him?

According to Hayden Boyce, “Mr Hall and his cohorts to channel their energies into the nation building process instead of “player-hating”, being so destructive and dragging their own country down.” Well people, I come up with ideas ALL THE TIME that can be used to help the country. My ideas are shot down ALL THE TIME. Does Mr Boyce honestly think we want to live in a country where the natives are overlooked, where we sell our soul for a meaningless dollar only to squander it? Schools need to be built, youth programs need to be constructed, the culture of the Turks and Caicos needs to be taught. We need to raping our land, stop pimping Turks and Caicos. And I for one and am not saying we must be left behind, but lets not sell ourselves to stay current.

Mr Boyce, I agree with a lot of what Anthony Hall writes and I want the nation building part to work. I want so many things for the country as does anyone who lives here. We’d like immigration problems to be controlled, we’d like natives who actually qualify for jobs to be hired, we’d like to see immigration look BEYOND Haitians and Dominicans because they are not the only ones violating laws. We would like to see investments that actually benefit the common man.

I will continue to read Mr Hall’s commentaries and keep using my mind as opposed to greedily gulping nonsense. Admit it folks, it feels good to have another point of view on things. The beauty of it is no one has to take what I write, what Mr Hall writes, what Mr Boyce writes as gospel, but it should feel good to know there are many points of views.

And if someone going against the grain scares you Mr Boyce then I feel sorry for you. It must be hard for you to seek truth.

Turks & Caicos, Premier Misick and Lisa Raye…the rumblings continue

April 13, 2008

There have not been any other statements from the Premier regarding this situation. However, there have been a lot of theories. I’ve heard people saying they feel the Premier should humble himself and step down. This investigation could be used as leverage for this looming commission of inquiry by the British. People are speculating that based on the characteristics of the Premier he will not step down nor will he even see the logic in doing so.

Generally I’ve come across folks who are disgusted with these accusations but are treating the Premier as an innocent man being accused of a violent crime. They are more upset about a point I brought up in my last entry: the shame that we have to endure due to this.

I’ve also heard people questioning whether the “First Lady” will stand by her man. Reportedly other blogs are saying she’s in the States and hasn’t been back here since this turmoil started, but I’ve heard that she was in Provo “carrying on and cussing” outside of their “White House”. Whatever the case, I’d like to see her do what so many other high profile wives do and stand by her husband…it would be amusing. If she doesn’t it’s not my problem.

Again, I don’t know if the Premier did what he was accused of. I do know he’s hurting our country, no one can deny that, and the best thing he can do is humble himself. He doesn’t need to go to Abundant Life Church and roll around on the ground while they shower him in purple cloth, he needs to address this country and address it with a changed heart, admit that he has not been the leader we deserve and move aside so we can move forward.

Premier Michael Misick: we want a leader, not a rapist!

April 11, 2008

The Hon. Michael Misick

Yesterday I was awakened by a sound I hardly ever hear: my cell phone ringing. I rarely use the piece of plastic so I was very surprised when I put the phone to my ear and was asked, “Did you hear? The Premier raped someone!”

I was then told to Google it and of course I did, but didn’t come up with any results. I had been hearing talk about this before Thursday and I pushed it from my mind. After all, I wasn’t stupid enough to get caught up in some wannabe lifestyle and have a power hungry man grope me or foolishly feel up a very not interested woman.

This morning I decided to Google Michael Misick and guess what I found? A little commentary that asks some very reasonable questions about this entire situation. Here are some of the questions/thoughts raised by Anthony L. Hall on caribbeannetnews.com

  • If this rape occurred over a week ago, I wonder whether guests who attended the gala opening of the Nikki Beach Resort and Spa just days later can now recall (even if through a drunken or drugged-out haze) any antic behaviour the Premier and First Lady displayed that could be attributed to it.
  • Since the accuser is an American, I wonder how aggressive a role FBI agents are playing in the investigation.
  • I wonder if the accuser has filed, or intends to file, a complaint in the US, which of course would pose consequences that are far more ominous for our Premier.
  • I wonder which role the First Lady will choose to play: Will she stand by her man; or will she fly the coop back to the US to stand by her friend – especially if the FBI and IRS make her an offer she can’t refuse? (Of course, if she flees and divorce proceedings ensue, we’d have to end our tourism ad campaign featuring her in the most lucrative role of her life; which would result in millions more of our money being squandered by this TCI government.)
  • I suspect senior members of the ruling Progressive National Party (PNP) were already suffering acute anxieties over the looming commission of inquiry into corruption in the TCI. Therefore, I wonder how close they came to finally throwing the Premier overboard to save their own hides.
  • Yet, I wonder whether these allegations will make the British more, or less, inclined to establish this commission

Doesn’t it make you want to sigh? What is our country coming to now?

Dear Premier Misick, we want a leader. If we wanted a rapist we could look to the streets, we could look to the common man but from you we need strength and honour. From you we demand respect for the country and we deserve a man who sets good examples.

Now we have to bear the shame of your alleged deeds and even if you are innocent, which is very hard to believe because we live in an age where people are automatically guilty, the mere fact that you are being associated with such a deplorable action does nothing but tarnish our country’s name.

The corruption that seeps from the PNP house under your direction has become increasingly clear. What you have done to this country as far as damage is concerned goes deeper than the surface. Think of it in terms of abusing a person and the effects it has on their life in the future: that is what you’ve done to us. Do you know the children, our future, have no faith in the system? None of them hold you or a member of ANY party for that matter as someone to look up to. The stain you have made will take more than a home remedy to remove.

We need a leader, it is no longer a want. We are in dire need of someone who CARES.

Further into Mr. Hall’s commentary he makes this point:

NOTE: No doubt some of you are wondering if the TCI Attorney General will dismiss this rape charge against our Premier the way the Director of Public Prosecutions in St Vincent and the Grenadines dismissed two separate rape charges against that country’s prime minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, earlier this year.

And frankly, given that the TCI Attorney General decided last year that there was “no public interest” in prosecuting the Premier on credible charges of assault, theft and obstruction of justice, chances are very good that his legal reasoning would mislead him into dismissing this charge as a strictly private matter.

However, the reason Premier Misick will not get off as easily as Prime Minister Gonsalves did is that his accuser is an American, not a native woman. (Pathetic, I know, but it’s really that simple…)

Moreover, I suspect that, ultimately, the FBI and US prosecutors will pursue justice for her far more vigorously and objectively than our arbitrary and capricious Attorney General would have done for one of our own.

There have always been rumors that The Premier has often dabbled in this disgusting “sport”. The “sport” of perusing local young ladies. I don’t know if every rumor is true or not but I hope if it is true these women would come forward and tell their stories. AND FIGHT, do not back down but unleash all that makes you woman upon that man. It is sad to think that because this woman who is making these allegations is an American that her case would be taken more seriously. I think a woman is a woman no matter where she is from.

Let us think on these things, let us fight to find truth in paradise.

Star Island…Not a Reality?

April 8, 2008

Star Island is supposedly based upon Palm Island in Dubai. It’s amazing how much Dubai has entered our lives since Premier Misick and his wannabe cool self jumped front and center….

I’m hearing murmurings the the Turks and Caicos Sun is reporting Star Island is not coming to the island. Instead, the whole thing everyone is roaring about is just a dumping ground for all the dredging that is taking place in the marina? Until I read the latest issue of the Sun I won’t make any further comments on that but I will say if it is just a misunderstanding the anger being felt from the residents and those around the world who love our islands should be a wake up call to the Minsters.

Stop raping our country. Oh and what is it with not being able to read the full story on the Sun’s website? Thanks for teasing us! If you’re going to post news post it in full people!
